Target Research Programme V5-2306

The study focused on analyzing the mental health of young people aged 16 to 24 in Slovenia. The aim was to assess the current state of mental health in this age group, including the prevalence of diagnosed mental disorders, self-reported difficulties, and risk behaviours. We also examined subjective assessments of life satisfaction, mental and physical health, and psychological flourishing, which shed light on the positive aspects of young people’s well-being. Special attention was given to identifying key risk and protective factors, as well as the use of mental health services and support resources. The study also included an analysis of adverse and positive childhood and adolescent experiences, personal worries, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, while also assessing the influence of current global crises on youth mental health. Based on the findings, we prepared recommendations for preventive and curative measures.

The project aims to contribute to a better understanding and treatment of youth mental health in Slovenia. By focusing on subjective indicators of mental health, the study offers a more comprehensive picture of the state of mental health and the factors shaping it. The results are relevant not only for the academic community but also for policymakers and professionals in the fields of mental health, education, and social work, as they enable the planning and implementation of measures tailored to the needs of young people.
